Visual Artist Fiona Tang shares her artistic journey and demonstrates her favourite drawing materials in her Artist Demo. She shares her creative process and how to make her animal drawings come 'alive' through expressive mark making and utilizing a technique called trompe l'oeil to make her animals appear to leap off the paper.

Art didn’t always come easy for Tang. Her family left Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada so she can have a better education. Wanting to make her parents proud, she pursued sciences as they wished. Although Tang was at the top of her class in the University, it didn’t bring her the joy—she was miserable. After taking a few years to think, she listens to her inner desire to pursue art. She could not be happier about her decision.

This was Tang’s first time drawing on cement and using spray chalk paint. She draws a crocodile that appears three-dimensional on the roads in Port Coquitlam. Take a close look but watch out, it might bite your hands off!

Fiona Tang is nominated to participate in a Paint-off Competition amongst 20 other Artists. Each artist is given just 20 minutes to create a painting and voters decide which artists gets to win each round for an ultimate paint-off with the best painters. Fiona takes home the crown as the top painter!
